BIG SAVING MADE

FOOD CAMPAIGN SUPPLIES FOR BRITAIN INTEREST MAINTAINED Although it is 12 months since the Famine Emergency Committee's campaign for food for Britain was inaugurated in the Dominion, interest is being maintained at a high level, as is shown by the large number of meat and butter coupons received at the chief post office. Gisborne. When the campaign was opened last March it was expected to last for only a few months. With the tragic happenings in Britain during the past month, when a huge number of animals died in tiie blizzard, it would appear as if New Zealand will still need to provide the maximum amount of food for Britain for some time to come. Every butter and meat coupon surrendered results in more food being made available for the United Kingdom. Both meat and butter coupons surrenders in the Gisborne district were higher than usual last week, and 5071 b of fat was collected. Butter coupons totalled 321, while 11.095 meat coupons were cancelled. The silent street appeal in the business area last Friday showed an increase on recent weeks, 49 butter and 1344 meat coupons being handed in. Schools are still taking an active interest in the campaign, East Cape children handing in 420 meat coupons last week. Children at Tiki Tiki collected 5520 meat coupons. Coupon surrenders credited to the main post office in the Gisborne district to March 22:
