SWIMMING TITLES

EAST COAST AREA COMING CARNIVAL The East Coast swimming championships to be held at the popular Te Puia Hot Spring Baths on the afternoon of Saturday, March 29, are expected to draw the leading exponents from the extensive area north of Gisborne. The carnival programme embrases a list of championship events in the various classes. These are open to residents of the East Coast area only, but opportunity for is given in a number of handicap events which should also attract a big entry. The championship swimming events are: Ladies’ 66 2-3vds., men. 100yds.; intermediate girls, 50yds.; intermediate boys, 50yds.; junior girls, 33 l-3yds.; junior boys, 33 l-3yds. Intermediates are classified as those under 17 years of age and juniors as under 14 at October 1 immediately preceding the holding of contests.

The handicap events include the following: Learners, one width; junior girls, 33 l-3yds.; junior boys, 33 l-3yds; intermediate girls, 50yds.; intermediate boys 50yds.; ladies, 06 2-3yds.; men, 100yds.; open breast-stroke, 50yds.; open back-stroke, 50yds.; relay, 100yds. (teams of three); diving, junior, intermediate and senior. A large party from the Gisborne district is expected, though Gisborne residents and members of the Gisborne Swimming Club will be eligible only for handicap events. Entries close on Saturday, March 22, with Mr. McDowell. Te Puia Hotel, and C. E. Brown. Limited, Gisborne. Intending competitors requiring transport from Gisborne should communicate witii C. E. Brown, Limited. It is intended to arrange special conveyance leaving Gisborne at 8 a.m. on .the day of the carnival.
