S. AFRICAN IMMIGRATION REQUEST TO BRITAIN DURBAN, Jan. 28. The Prime Minister. General Smuts, has sent a personal appeal to the Prime Minister of Britain, Mr. C. R. Attlee, to divert three Union Castle liners from troopship duties to speed up immigration to South Africa. General Smuts wants the liners to run exclusively as immigrant .transports for at least a year.
