OILFIELDS IN URALS
SOVIET TO TREBLE OUTPUT ATOMIC POWER RESEARCH (9 am) LONDON, March 25. The Moscow radio announced that under the new five-year plan, Russia will treble her oil output in the Lrals by 1950. Twenty wells are being sunk m 1946 and production will be increased oO per cent by the end of the year. Research into atomic energy and astrophysics hold a prominent place in the Soviet Academy of Science s_ fiveyear plan, said the president or the academy, M. Vavilov, writing in the Moscow paper Izvestia. The draft plan, which is far from complete, provides for 50 new building projects and 60 expeditions, including a large-scale one to the northern Pacific.
