FRENCH PRESS FREEDOM
CONSTITUTION'S TERMS
(10 a.m.) LONDON. Feb. 14. The new French constitution will not specifically guarantee the freedom of the press if it is passed in the form proposed at a meeting of the Assembly constitutional commission, says Router's correspondent in Paris. _ . The commission rejecte'd the addition of the phrase “the freedom of the press is guaranteed” to a clause dealing with the freedom of speech and opinion. The Catholic Left Radicals voted for tire inclusion of the clause, and the Socialists and Communists voted against it. The voting, 20 to 16. was the same against an amendment abolishing the present system whereby newspapers and periodicals must receive the Government’s permission to publish.
