MENTALLY UNSTABLE
POUND NOT TO BE TRIED
CHARGES OF TREASON
(10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Feb. 14. A jury of the United States district court found Ezra Pound mentally unsound. Therefore, Pound will not be tried on treason charges arising from his wartime broadcasts from Italy. Two psychiatrists gave evidence that Pound was a sensitive, eccentric and cynical person who was in a paranoic state of psychotic proportions rendering him unfit for trial. The Associated Press points out that Pound will be detained at St. Elizabeth Mental Hospital .Washington, and can be brought to trial later if his mental condition improves.
