JAPANESE ISLES
AMERICA’S POLICY HOLD ON VITAL POINTS TRUSTEESHIP FOR OTHERS (9 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 16. America’s policy regarding the conquered Japanese islands will favour retaining those that America needs and placing others under a United Nations collective trusteeship, said President Truman in an interview. He said the islands the United States felt she should retain would be placed under individual American trusteeship _ but UNO would have to authorise this as well as other plans. There might be other individual nation trusteeships as well as collective trusteeships, but this would develop as UNO considered the subject.
