“UNCALLED FOR”
ANY TALK OF STRIKE WELLINGTON A.S.R.S. VIEW (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 19. A motion stating that the Wellington branch of the A.S.RS. disassociated itself from the resolution published in the press by the Canterbury branch of the A.S.R.S. on the right to “hire and fire” was unanimously carried by a well attended meeting of the Wellington branch of the A.S.R.S. A statement issued by the branch is as follows: — “While this branch is in the dark as to what inspired the Canterbury branch to publish its resolution, we realise that disciplinary measures will always be necessary with such a large staff, and in the past we find that any punishment given out that we consider harsh has been given an attentive hearing through the proper channels provided. “We also consider that we have an executive body which has given great satisfaction in dealing with these matters and that any talk of a strike is uncalled for.” The statement added that the branch had every confidence in the railway management.
