RETURN OF FRENCH INDO-CHINA TERRITORIES ANNAMITES’ INTRIGUES CHUNGKING, Sept. 2. French quarters in Chungking allege that the Japanese are secretly handing over arms to Annamite revolutionaries who are seeking to establish an independent republic, reports the Associated Press correspondent. A reliable informant in Kungming said that Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten’s command may take over Indo-China because of the strong position of the Annamite independence forces. General Leclerc, the French Commander, told Allied correspondents in Yokohama that the French anticipate turmoil when they return in the near future to Indo-China. General Leclerc will command perhaps 8000 white and natice troops in Indo-China. He revealed that an agreement had already been reached assuring France of the evacuation of British and Chinese troops. Though the Japanese assumed tight control of Indo-China late in 1944 they did not occupy Cambodia, Laos and Annam.
