FREEDOM FOR RED CROSS (9 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 22. Confirming the E.A.M. agreement with the International Red Cross for the release of hostages, the British United Press correspondent in Athens says the agreement means that the biggest stumbling block in the way of converting the Greek truce into a permanent peace appears to have been removed. The E.A.M. lias promised to release all civilians arrested after December 3, except those taken from Averoff Prison, in Athens, which was the scene of particularly heavy fighting, also except those charged on sound evidence with committing crimes. The E.A.M. has also promised the Red Cross complete independence jjnd freedom of action in carrying out its activities.
