REDUCTION IN U.S. WAR-EFFORT NECESSITY WARNING TO THE NATION (9 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 2. The Director of the Office of Defence Transportation, Colonel Johnson, has warned that the closing of the nation’s racecourses might be followed by more drastic steps unless Unnecessary civilian travel is eliminated.
Railway equipment is taxed to the limit by needless- passenger movement. reaching a point where the war effort is embarrassed. Accordingly the passengers’ equipment might have to be diverted to essential war use.
