OBITUARY
The death occurred suddenly at Winton of Dr. Peter Gow, past president of the Winton Jockey Club, and a former local body member. Dr. Gow was twice married. Of three sons of his first, marriage, one was recently killed in the air force. He is survived by his second wife, Dr. Moana Gow, two daughters and a son. Captain Gerald Sharpe, whose death occurred a few days ago in Westport, was for many years well known, in maritime circles throughout New Zealand as the master of several of the Canterbury Steam Shipping Company’s vessels. As a member of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, he served on a ”Q’’ ship in various theatres during the last war. I ailin',* health compelled his retirement from the sea. He then received an appointment as assistant wharf superintendent at Westport for the Union Steam Ship Company. , , £ The death has occurred of Mr. Charles Hinton, a pioneer of the Waikato and for manv years resident in Te Awamutu and district. Born in New South Wales 85 years-ago, Mr. Hinton came to New Zealand in 1862 and settled in the Waikato. The bereaved family includes a daughterj Mrs. E. Costain, Gisborne. ;
