MAIZE MARKET BARE

LOCAL PRODUCE PEMAND.

The market for maize in- Gisborne is re-, ported to be bare of supplies, and much the same position is believed to exist in most other centres of the Dominion. The position is exactly the opposite-to what it was a year ago, when there was a heavy surplus that many were not optimistic of it ever being overcome. The early varieties are not expected to be ready for shelling in any quantity until next month, sind' even then it is thought that progress may be slow, for, the picking season may be even longer than it was last year because of the wet weather and the soggy conditions of many of the low-lying paddocks. . The crop is picking out very well in regard to both yield and quality so far. Good quality hay is still in keen demand at 5s to r. 36d per bushel, ex store. Orders from Hawke’s Bay have slackened, but odd lots are still going forward at £7 10s to j£B 10s per ton, on trucks. Chulf remains in fairly keen demand. Quality linos are not plentiful this season. All supplies are now coming from the South Island, and are. being sold at £1.3 to £l3 10s for good quality, ex store, Gisborne.
