RATS AND MOSQUITOES
PREVENTION OF DISEASE Action in the Whangarei Borough against rats and mosquitoes was asked of the Whangarei Borough Council by the medical officer of health, who stated that the question of control had assumed much greater importance since the war extended to the Pacific. The possibility of aeroplanes or ships bringing infected mosquitoes from the Pacific islands and of ships bringing infected rats could not be ignored. The reduction of the native mosquito and rat population and the removal of breeding places would help considerably in preventing the spread of such diseases as plague and malaria if they were introduced.
It was decided that the sanitary inspector should confer with the medical officer of health to ascertain what steps the department proposed the councii should take.
