MAORI HOME GUARD
CAMPS TO CONTINUE GOVERNMENT DECISION The Government has made an exception to its decision to restrict Home Guard training to quarterly muster and musketry parades, and has informed Maori Home Quard authorities that they will be allowed to continue with their camps, At those, ranking and prospective Maori officers and non-commissiofied' officers have been carrying-. Out one month’s inten - sive instruction for the purpose of adding to their efficiency as leaders and instructors for the remainder of their units.
It is known that leaders of the native race have been very keen to continue with the camps. These have been established at such points as Matata, Kirikcrpuni and Hicks Bay, and have been of definite value not only to Maori Home Guard units, but (o the Maori war effort in general. Apart from being allowed to continue with their camps-. Maori Home Guard units will be on the same training basis as other guard formations. That is, they will be 'required to parade only once a quarter, although undoubtedly they will also parade on any special ceremonial or other official occasion.
