Seed Potato Demand
The demand for vegetable seeds and plants in Gisborne appears to be almost, if not quite, up to the phenomenal period of a year ago, when the produce-more campaign was at its height and was taken up by the back-door gardener, in addition to farmers, on a large scale. So great is the demand for seed potatoes that difficulty hns been experienced in findin” sufficient for the market. It is stated that the southern potatoes have been selling so well for culinary purposes that smaller quantities than usual have been left for seed, and this, combined with the big demand, has affected the Dakota Red variety, which will be in demand from now on.
