ATLANTIC BATTLE

FAILING U-BOATS NAZI PRESS EXCUSES “GREATEST DIFFICULTIES” (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) {Reed. Aug. 15, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 34. “The U-boats and planes are now facing much greater difficulties in carrying out the orders for a blockade of the British Isles,” says the Frankfurter Zeitung. "It has become extremely difficult to detect British convoys, because they now take new routes and there are fewer convoys.” The naval correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says that the feeble excuses put out by the enemy to explain Britain’s reduced shipping losses may be taken as evidence that the Battle of the Atlantic is going against the Germans. It has been officially stated the U-boats are being sunk with increasing frequency.
