HIGHWAY BRIDGE

NEW WAIKARI SPAN , Through traffic on the NapierWairoa highway will be interrupted next week while a change-over is made from the old wooden bridge at the bottom of the Waikari Gorge to a new reinforced steel structure built at a higher level, arid at an angle to the course of the stream. The new bridge will effect a marked improvement in the Waikari section, and it Is expected that two days’ work will see the change-over completed. Freight will be diverted to the railway during the change-over, but passengers and mails normally transported by road will suffer only the slight delay necessary for transfer at the bridge site in the gorge. Cars and trucks will run to either side of the new bridge, and exchanges will be made there. »

Private motorists are advised to avoid using the Napier-Wairoa road on Monday and Tuesday, and to delay any journeys over the route until Thursday, at least -
