HUNT FOR STEEL

The West Australian Government lias formed a committee of experts to investigate the establishment of the iron and steel industries. The State possesses several iron ore deposits with High iron content and low percentage of impurities. The forests of the south-west provide a source of cheap charcoal and supplies of highgrade limestone and lime sands are abundant. The Minister for Industrial Development, Mr. A. R. G. Hawke, said the State should be able to produce iron of similar purity to the best Swedish, which was particularly suitable for the thin sheets used for tin plate and for special alloy steels.
