BARTLETTS NEWS

SOLDIER WELCOMED HOME (Herald Correspondent.) A most enjoyable social and dance was held in the Y.M.C.A. Hall Bartletts on Saturday evening under the auspices of the Bartletls Social Club, a large number of Maoris and Europeans'attending to welcome Corporal N Tc Hau home again. On behalf of Ihe club and friends in Bartletls, Mr. E. Mulligan, the chairman, welcomed the guest of the evenin’. Mr. L. C. Hardie, resident engineer also welcomed Corporal Te Hau and made a smalt presentation to him. Mr. W. Mutcuga, on ■ behalf of ttv Maori people, addressed the gathering, and Corporal Te Hau suitably replied, The music for dancing was provided by Mrs. Kaimoyna and Mr, Mars Pohatu. Extras were played by Miss S. Pohatu and Mrs. J. Clanachan. Several items were given during the evening, a solo by Miss A. Poipoi and concerted items by a paity of Maoii friends. Sixteen members of the Home Guard, Bartletts, joined in the unit parade at Muriwai on Sunday. The weekly parade will be held on "Wednesday evening in the Baitletts Y.M.C.A. Mrs. Heikell, sen., Mr. J. Heikell, Gisborne, and Mr. and Mrs. G. Heikell. Tokomaru Bay. were guests of Mr. and Mrs. O. Heikell, Bartletts, last week-end. —Mr, K. Muir, who is an out-patient of the Cook Hospital, spent the week-end with bis family at Bartletts.
