DRILLING PROGRESS

MORERE STANDSTILL GAINS AT MIDHIRST The fortnightly bulletin of the New Zealand Petroleum Company, issued to-day, states:— "Morere No. 1 Well.—Drillpipe recovery operations still continuing. ‘‘Midhirst No. 1 Well.—Present depth 6185 ft.; formation, hard grey shale.”

At the date of the last report, March 27, the trouble at Morere was three months old, the company having lost part of its drilling column and tools in the well through a jam apparently caused by caving ground. Progress at Midhirst represents a gain of 205 ft. since the last bulletin, which gave the depth as at March 27 as 5980 ft. There Ik s been no change in formation there.
