N.Z. GIFT TO SYDNEY
TROOPS’ RECREATION HUT RADIO AND AMPLIFIERS MARK OF APPRECIATION (Elec. Tel. Copyright—Uni tod Pross Assn.) (Rccd. April 10, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 10.
A wireless set and amplifiers, presented to the Anzac Buffet and the Sir John Monash recreation hut by the New Zealand National Patriotic Fund Board as a mark of appreciation of the entertainment by the people of New South Wales of New Zealand soldiers passing through Sydney, was formally handed to the Lord Mayor of Sydney, Alderman Crick by the New Zealand Trade Commissioner, Mr. W Taylor, yesterday.
In doing so, Mr. Taylor expressed the thanks of the New Zealand people for the hospitable manner in which New Zealanders were treated in Sydney. Alderman Crick, replying, said the people of Australia at all times were most happy to do all in their power for New Zealand and New Zealand soldiers passing through. The close association of New Zealand and Australia started in the last war and was more firmly cemented by the present crisis. It was only fit and proper that the two Dominions should work in close harmony for the good of the Empire. The equipment would be a most valuable asset for the entertainment of Australian soldiers in their leisure hours. Its cheerful music would constantly remind soldiers of the friendship of New Zealanders.
On the set is a silver plate stating from whom it was presented and the purpose of the gift.
