EASTER FIXTURES

SPORT IN GISBORNE NOT THE USUAL VARIETY GOLF, BOWLS. TENNIS There will not be tire usual variety of fixtures offering for sporting enthusiasts in Gisborne over the Easier holiday period. Few winter sports have really started yet with the exception of golf. The three golf clubs in Gisborne have ail opened their season and the links are reported to be in good condition for this time of the year. The usual Easter tournament will not be played on the Awapuni links, but card competitions will be conducted on Easter Saturday and Monday, so that players with military obligations may have the opportunity of playing in one or more of the competitions. An Easter handicap tournament will commence on the Turanganui links on Saturday morning. Ordinary games will be played on the Gisborne Park Golf Club's links over the holidays.

Bowling enthusiasts will have their interest centred on the annual Gis-borne-East Coast Bowling Centre's tournament for the Burton Cup trophy fours and the D. G. Robinson Memorial Shield for the runners-up. Play in this competition will commence on Friday and continue during Saturday and Monday. No Rugby football will be played in Gisborne over the holidays, and no teams will travel out of the district. The cricket season finished last Saturday, and no games will be played over Easter. No hockey matches are to be played in the district during the holidays, but some teams may take the opportunity of practising for the opening of the season.

The tennis clubs will remain open until after the holidays and, providing the weather is fine, players probably will make good use of the extra few days allowed them at the end of this summer sport.

The annual sports meeting conducted by the Waikohu Returned Soldiers' Association will be held on the Te Karaka sports grounds on Easter Monday. Athletic, horse and chopping events are featured on the programme.
