NUGGET BESIDE ROAD

WORTH NEARLY £SOO ' MELBOURNE, Oct. 17. A 440 z. nugget of gold, worth nearly £SOO, was unearthed by Mr. A. N. Powell and party within a few yards of the main road at Eganstown, Victoria. The nugget was found in an area which v/as famous for nuggets in the years that followed the opening of the field. It was set in quartz, the whole weighing 920 z., and from the quartz that has been chipped away another Coz. are expected to be recovered, bringing the find to 50oz. The party has been working in the area for the last two years, and winning smaller quantities of gold regularly. They are using a hydraulic sluice.
