FOUR BOYS AND DOG
SEARCH FOR ADVENTURE NEWCASTLE, Sept. 20. Guarded by a half-bred Alsatian, four boys who disappeared from their homes in Cook’s Hill, Newcastle, yesterday, were found asleep under a railway goods shed at Paterson, 30 miles north of the city, this afternoon. The boys were Keith Wheeler, aged 13, Barry Harrison, aged 14, of Bruce street, John Thorp, aged 13, of Council street, and Alexis Kidd, aged 13, of Parry street. Before their disappearance, they had openly discussed plans to go to Queensland to start work on a cattle station. A guard at a railway station told police to-day that he had seen four boys on three horses, which were harnessed with rope, travelling north, at 4 a.m. to-day. Constable Stapleton came upon the boys at Paterson, but for some time he* was held off by the dog, which was a pet of one of the boys. The boys were cold and hungry. They told him they had obtained the horses at Newcastle, and after reaching Paterson, had set them free. They intended to continue their journey by “rattler.” They were given food and shelter for the night, and will be returned to their homes to-morrow.
