INFANTRY TRAINING
TERRITORIAL UNITS PREPARATION FOR CAMP NIGHTS AND WEEK-ENDS Territorials of the Ist Hawke’s Bay Infantry "Regiment in this district are undergoing a course of preparation for the three months’ camping period on which they will enter at the beginning of next month. Two groups have been formed from members of B Company and Headquarters Wing specialists resident in Gisborne, and each group parades two nights each week and once during the week-end. Non-commissioned officers who recently passed through a two months' course of intensive training' at Tauherenikau are available for training the other ranks, and are keen to pass on the benefits of their recent opportunities. They are working hard to bring the district units up to a high state of efficiency, so that when the regiment is mobilised in Wanganui in October it will compare well with other regiments encamped at the same place for a similar period.
Deficiencies in uniform and equipment are being attended to, and newcomers to the units are being given particular attention by the instructors. Captain G. P. Lindsay, who recently over command of B Company, is remaining in Gisborne until the mobilisation date to supervise the training and to bring the , company up to strength. A number of recruits have been secured in recent weeks to fill vacancies in the ranks caused by the enlistment of partially-trained territorials for active service. Specialist members of Headquarters Wing are sharing the infantry training of B Company during September, and will return to their specialist work after mobilisation next month.
