FEED DEPLETED

HAWKE’S BAY POSITION The high winds which have prevailed in Hawke’s Bay have resulted in tl’.e supply of feed on Hawke’s Bay farms being considerably lessened. Three weeks ago there was a splendid growth of clover on the better-class country, particularly on the aftermath of hay and grass-seed paddocks. To-day this has largely disappeared. The wind has played havoc with the first growth of rape crops, and in many instances farmers have not had anything like the feeding from these crops that they expected. As a result of these crops going oIT so rapidly there has been a particularly heavy rush of rape lambs into freezing works, and killings will be specially heavy right up to the end of the’ present week, with large numbers of owe drafts also coming forward.
