NO STOPPAGE YET

AUSTRALIAN MINERS GOVERNMENT’S STAND (Reed. March 1, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 29. Although the coalminers’ultimatum for a general strike expired to-day, there will be no immediate stoppage of work. t A special meeting of delegates (of all mining unions will be held at the week-end to decide the date of aggregate meetings of mine workers at which a decision to strike will be considered. A report from Newcastle to-day says that a straight-out motion in favour of a general strike will almost certainly be rejected by the rank and file. The Prime Minister,. Mr. R. G. Menzies, reaffirmed the Government’s decision not to intervene in the dispute and will insist that the Arbitration Court’s awards and decisions shall be observed.
