SHOOTING SEASON CUT MINISTER CRITICISED (Per Press Association.) HAMILTON, this day. Concern at what was described by one member as the dictatorial attitude adopted by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, in regard to acclimatisation societies was expressed at the annual meeting of the Hamilton Acclimatisation Club when the question of the reduction of the shooting season and the possibility of the Government taking over societies was being discussed. It was unanimously decided to recommend to the Auckland Acclimatisation Society’s council that the proposed reduction of the shooting season for 1940 and the closing of the season in 1941 should be opposed. It was also recommended that strong opposition should be made against any proposal to take over acclimatisation societies. Mr. W. E. Nicholson declared that Mr. Parry had not received the support of the Cabinet in the proposals to take over the societies. By reducing the season the societies would lose considerable revenue, and it was probable that before long smaller societies would he going to the Government for assistance.
