QUOTA FILLED FIRST
SECOND ECHELON MEN THIRD DRAFT COMPLETE (Per Press Association.) MASTERTON, this day. “This area was the first in New Zealand to till its quota for the Second Echelon of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in addition to providing a large number of additional men to fill the shortage in quotas from other areas,” staled Captain C. .7. Williams, Napier, No. 7 Wairarapa-I-lawke's Bay-Gisborne area officer in a statement yesterday. “The quota for the Third Echelon is more than full, hut additional enlistments are still being taken,” he added. Captain Williams stated that, in his opinion, the response had been magnificent. The response to appeals for recruits for the Maori Battalion and home service units was also most gratifying. The enlistment rate was still being maintained at a high level and a huge proportion of the men had been medically examined and passed as fit. Registrations for service in this area up to February 24 totalled 2615, oi whom 1769 were fit and 82 temporarily unfit, with 354 still to he examined. The men dispatched to camp totalled 1079 and the balance available for the Third Echelon was 493.
