CHILDREN’S SAFETY
AIM OF ASSOCIATION INSTRUCTION FOR 1000 SCHOOLBOY PATROLS Safety-first instruction has been given to 1000 children attending Gisborne schools during the past few days by officials of the Automobile Association (Auckland). From 11 a.m. until 3.30 p.m. yesterday ail almost continuous show was. maintained at the Masonic Hall, Childers road, and the school children were taken in groups to ensure the most beneficial results by close personal instruction. A travel film shown to the children included the principal holiday and tourist resorts of the Auckland province.
A picture that was most appreciated by the youngsters was the film of Germany taken by the touring manager. Mr. R. E. Chnmptaloup, on his recent visit: to Europe. In one of the scenes where 1-lerr Hitler appeared .at the opening of a new German autobahn (he children greeted the Fuhrer with a loud booing, and they soon joined in the chorus of the popular war song. “Wo Are Going to Hang Ou< Our Washing on the Siegfried Line.” The efforts of,the association in connection with child safety are meeting with a ready response from headmasters of schools. Before leaving Gisborne this morning the safety-first inspector, Mr. S. Ringer, attended the Kail! School at; the request of the headmaster. Mr. A. K. H. Parkinson, and inaugurated the A.A. schoolboy safety patrol system.
