TO BE LIFTED

PETROL RESTRICTIONS

TERMINATE NEXT MONTH

STATEMENT BY MINISTER i

APPEAL. FOR ECONOMY

(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The petrol restrictions are to be removed altogether at the end of November, said the Minister of Supply the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, to-day. In addition, 'increased allowances would be available during November. The Minister asked motorists to aid in conserving supplies by reducing waste, however.

“The petrol allowance for private cars during November will be increased from 15 gallons to 1R gallons for cars over 14 horse-power and from 10 to 12 gallons for cars under that rating,” said Mr. Sullivan.

“Coupons i) to 14 inclusive will be used during the month. In addition, the special extra allowance for those who are making holiday trips will be continued during November. This allowance is in addition to that covered by the coupons and is for quantities up to 30 gallons for cars over 14 horse-power and 20 gallons for cars o.f 14 horse-power and under. These allowances are obtained by application to the district postmaster.

"The petrol position is now such that from the end of next month the restrictions will be lifted.”

Motorists Thanked

The Minister thanked motorists, petrol station proprietors, and motoring organisations for their assistance in facilitating the administration of the oil fuel regulations and he appreciated the manner in which the general public had accepted the restrictions. “Although the position of present

| stocks has enabled me to lift the re- : strictions, I feel that it is hardly necessary for me to remind the motori ing public that while we are at war it j is desirable to avoid anything in the nature of waste, no matter what commodity. This particularly applies to : petrol, which has to be conveyed for j thousands of miles to this country. I ; therefore have no hesitation in again i appealing to the New Zealand motorist to do his share by not being extravagant or lavish in the use of petrol.”
