PERSONALS

Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., will leave for Wellington on Monday to attend a meeting of the national council on patriotic funds. He will remain in Wellington during the remainder of the week.

Colonel E. Putliek, D. 5.0., New Zealand Staff Corps, has relinquished his appointment as honorary aide-de-camp to tlie Governor-General on being appointed aide-de-camp (additional) to the King.

Pilot Officer B. T. Sheil (Retired List) has been posted to the active list, confirmed in his rank and promoted to the rank of flying officer. He is to have the honorary rank of squadron leader while employed as publicity officer attached to Air Headquarters, Wellington. Flying Officer Sheil also succeeds Flight Lieutenant L. F. P, Taylor as president of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band.

Dr. E. P. Allen, formerly of New Plymouth, has been appointed radiologist at the New Plymouth Hospital. After graduating at Otago University, Dr. Allen was radium officer at the Cancer Hospital, London, for a year, and was awarded the Chester-Bealty Scholarship for radiological research, under which he spent a year at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, New York. He is at present radiologist at the Leicester General Infirmary, In the course of a tour of New Zealand, Dr. J. F. Staton, examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London, arrived at Gisborne last evening from Opotiki. Dr. Staton, who is accompanied by Mrs. Staton, is paying his initial visit to Gisborne and he will spend the week-end here, resuming his tour on Tuesday. Fortyone candidates arc to be examined by Dr. Staton and only one candidate is tb play the violin. The remainder will undertake practical tests at the pianoforte. Some of the students were put through their tests at the Bright Street Methodist Schoolroom to-day and further examination work will be carried out by Dr. Staton at the Convent on Monday.
