NO CUT IN USE OF COAL FOR POWER IN N.Z.

CHRISTCHURCH. This Day (p A ) —There was no truth in the suggestion that the Government had or would cut down on steam power generation, on the score of expense, said the general manager of. the State Hydro-electric Department, Mr A. E. Davenport, at the anual conference of the Electric Power Boards and Supply Authorities'' Association this morning. While the departmental estimates had not yet been considered, he said he could reveal that this year £925,000 was provided for coal for steam plants and next year £1,000,000 would be provided. “There will be no cutting down on steam generation because of finance and this has been made clear by the Prime Minister and' Minister of Finance, Mr S. G. Holland, the Minister of Mines, Mr W. Sullivan, and the Minister of Works, Mr W. S. Goosman.” sa id Mr Dav en port.
