NEW POLICE STATION: HOUSE REMOVALS TO CLEAR SECTION
A start has been made with the clearing of the section at the corner of Guinness and Tarapuhi streets where the new Police Station will be built. The work entails the shifting of a house ineach street adjoining the ■section.
The Tarapuhi street house, formerly Owned by Mr A. A. Shannon, has been broken into sections for transport to a site alongside the existing police station in Sturge street, Cobden. The first section of the house will probably be removed tomorrow. The main difficulty facing the contractor will be to negotiate the Cobden bridge where girders enclose the overhead structure and limit the height. However, a room at a time will be loaded onto a low slung trailer and by this means it is hoped to gain sufficient clearance to allow a passage. The work is being undertaken by a local contractor, who will also complete the removal of the house in Guinness street to a section in Blaketown. '
