EROSION THREAT AT ARAHURA: MR FRASER APPROACHED
Erosion which is threatening the houses at the Maori settlement at Arahura, was inspected this morning by the Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser, at the invitation of Mr E. T. Tirikatene, Member of the Executive Council representing the Maori race. Spokesmen for the Tribal Committee at Arahura pointed out how the Arahura river was cutting into the land on the north bank of the river below the combined rail and road bridge, and was approaching houses in the settlement.
Sympathising with the settlers in their predicament, Mr Fraser referred to the loss also of valuable land, and undertook to have the problem investigated. Several other matters raised by the Maori settlers were also discussed by Mr Fraser before he left on his return to Greymouth about noon.
