GOLF FINALISTS FOUND IN AUSTRALIAN AMATEUR TOURNEY

MELBOURNE, October 15

Douglas Bachli (Victoria) and Peter Heard (New South Wales) will meet over 36 holes tomorrow in the final of the Australian amateur golf championships at the Metropolitan links. . Today, Bachli won his quarter-final against T. Tanner; and followed that with a brilliant semi-final win over W A Edgar. Heard eliminated J. Willing the only Tasmanian left in the championship, in the quarter-final, and later recovered from 3 down to beat E. Routley in the semi-final. The final is expected to provide a great battle, with Bachli the favourite. Heard is comparatively unknown in Victoria but at least is known to Bachli. The pair played together as juniors, and are close friends. The best quarter-final match was Routley’s win, 2 up, over K. Pix. Routley was 4 under fours to the fifteenth hole after an outward nine holes of 34. and finished with an approximate 70. In the semi-final. Routley seemed to have Heard beaten at the turn, but then lost four holes in succession to be 1 down. Scores were: — Quarter-finals: W. A. Edgar beat W. A. Higgins 3 and 2; D. Bachli beat T. Tanner, 4 and 2; E. Routley beat K. Fix, 2 up; P. Heard beat E. J. Willings, 6 and 4. Semi-finals: Bachli beat Edgar, 4 and 2; Heard beat Routley. 2 and 1.
