COMMUNISTS IN CHRISTCHURCH OBJECT TO FILM
(P A.) CHRISTCHURCH, October la. Carrying banners bearing slogans “Demanding the Government to ban this film, and all war propaganda ; “The Iron Curtain is a gentlement s agreement against war”; and “U.N.O. against war propaganda” members of the Canterbury district committee' ol the Communist Party staged a quiet demonstration outside the Crystal Palace Theatre when the Americanfilm, “Iron Curtain” began its Christchurch screening this evening. A small crowd gathered outside the theatre shortly after 7.30, when three members of the party, headed by the secretary (Mr J. Locke) appeared with banners. Other members of the party distributed pamphlets to those entering the theatre, and to people out-senior-sergeant and a sergeant of police stood watching. There were ironic comments from the crowd, but no incidents.
