BASKETBALL PLANS DISCUSSED BY ASSOCIATION FOR INCREASING FUNDS

Methods of raising finance for the preparation and tar-sealing of the association’s new courts in Blaketown were discussed at a meeting of the executive committee of the West Coast Basketball Association this week and it was decided that a subcommittee, consisting of one player from each team under the jurisdiction of the association, be seit.jup to go more fully into the matter. It was reported that ■ the area known as the “frog pond” in Blaketown had been offered to the association by the Harbour Board and that the surface would be ready for tar-sealing in about 12 months’ time. It was suggested that the court fee, which was at present one penny, be raised to threepence, twopence of which would be put aside each week for the new courts and one penny to go to the association. The raising of the registration fee for 1949 was* also suggested, and club representatives will be asked to make recommendations as to other means of increasing the financial position of the association.

Fair Suggested The suggestion that a “basketball fair” he conducted' for one week at the opening of the 1949 season, when each club would be asked to stock the stalls and take charge of them for one clay, was also put forward. The erection of a stand for the accommodation of the increasing number of the public who are interested in watching the matches was also discussed. It was pointed out. that if the association was to keep in mind tournament requirements, plans would need to be made to include seating accommodation on the grounds. The New Zealand Association advised that tournament badges would be awarded to the winners of the second and third grade competitions as soon as they came to hand.
