N.Z. RIFLEMEN IN N.S.W. ANNUAL PRIZE MEETING

SYDNEY, October 13.

The 27 New Zealand riflemen competing in the seventy-fourth annual prize meeting of the National Rifle Association of New South Wales are considered to have performed very well in trying weather and unfamiliar conditions. The A and B series have been completed and the King’s Shoot is now in progress. Only one New Zealander so far has failed to win a share of the prize money.

The Now Zealand representatives comprise 19 men from Petone, seven from Okawa, and W. N. Masefield, five times winner of the Ballinger Belt, who is competing individually. Other well-known riflemen competing are C. J. Nix and R. H. Nichol (Petone) and O. Berry (Okawa). The meeting has been notable for the success of three tyros, A. MacArthur, C. Mitchell, and E. Smith.

The following is a summary of the New Zealand placings so far:— . Colonel Wynne Shoot, 300 yards, possible 35.—F. T. Thomas 34, sixteenth; J. R. Lewis and E. R. Smith, 32.

Nickless, E. R. ■Smith, and J. Reid 45. Associated Glass Manufacturers’ Shoot, 700 yards, possible 50. —-MacArthur 48: Smith, M. Patmore, and Thomas 47.

Monday Aggregate, possible 150. — Patmore 138, twentieth; Smith, 136; Nichol. P. Berry, and MacArthur 135. Motion Shoot, 600 yards, possible 50. — m. Holland 46, twentylfirst; A. H. O’Donnell and B.
