N.Z-WIDE CHECK ON BRAKES , OF MOTOR VEHICLES

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. “The Transport Department will hold a Dominion-wide drive to check motor vehicles for faulty brakes on November 8,” said the Minister of Transport, Mr F. Hackett, today. “With the approach of the Christmas and New Year holidays, when traffic on the roads will again be extremely heavy, I want to ensure that every vehicle is mechanically sound,” he said. The Minister added that last year 31 accidents resulting in death or injury could definitely be traced to faulty brakes. Officers of the department would be on the job all over New Zealand and would use the latest scientific brake-testing apparatus. ... ~ “The drive will continue until it is felt that all parts of the country have been covered adequately,” said the Minister.
