Frontier Mac At Long Odds In Mitchelson Cup

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, October 10. The Auckland Racing Club’s spring meeting was opened at Ellerslie yesterday in fine weather before a good attendance. The track was dead. Kenneth, winner of the Trial Hurdles, paid more than a century. The totalisator handled £175,662 10s, against £175,587 10s last year, an increase of £75.

B. Boreham, who rode Kenneth, had a fall with Master Isaacs in the Hunters’ Steeplechase and was taken to hospital with possible spinal injuries. After an absence of 15 months from the winning list, the veteran Sleepy Fox, now nine years old scored comfortably in the open sprint, the Shorts Handicap. One of Auckland’s most popular* racehorses in recent years, Sleepy Fox made racing history by winning the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie for four successive years, from 1944 to 1947. He is jointly owned by Mr Eliot Davis and Mr Oliver Nicholson and trained by T. F. Verner. Although he did not win a race last season, Sleepy Fox more than paid expenses. Disqualifications Imposed After ah inquiry concerning the ownership and registration of certain horses the Auckland District Committee has imposed disqualification for five years upon S. R. Mounsey and R. Turkington, and the horses Trench Mortar, Trench Meter, and High Power, and a yearling filly from Hikiko. The committee has also disqualified W. A. Archer for. two years and E. A.
