SMART GALLOPS IN TRIALS AT RICCARTON

[SPECIAL TO STAR] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.

Conditions were favourable for fast work at Riccarton yesterday morning, and the trial grass provided firm going. The plough was also in use.

The fastest sprint on the grass was executed by Magical, who with footing to suit him, recorded 1-1 for five furlongs, the last four in 48 3-5. He went smoothly throughout, and there is no doubt about his ability on firm ground. Another fast sprint was credited to the two-year-olds Bosun and Robinfaye, who ran half a mile in 47 2-5, after covering the first furlong in 11 3-5. Bosun finished slightly in front, and is now a certain visitor to Trentham.

Other useful half mile tasks on the grass were recorded by Loch Lennox and Highway in 48 2-5, Neptina in 4'B 2-5, Pedas in 49 3-5, Lilli Marlene clear of Langham 50 1-5, Big Top in front of Night Lap and Iron Trail in 49 3-5, Lodestar 551, Palomino 51.
