THREE HUNTLY MINES STILL IDLE TODAY

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. The miners did not attend for work at three Huntly , mines today—Macdonald, Glen Afton and Pukemiro. Since work ceased last week over a dispute concerning payment for a certain class of work in the Macdonald mine, about 7400 tons of coal have been lost in combined output. The three other Huntly mines are working. A message from Auckland last night said the strike at the Macdonald, Glen Afton, and Pukemiro coal mines unexpectedly continued yesterday morning and last night, after a day of conferences and consultations, the men and management were no nearer to a settlement.

The strike started in the Macdonald mine last Wednesday. The Glen "Afton and Pukemiro mines joined the strike on Thursday, making more than 700 men idle. Their loss in pay is already about £5OOO. * Rail Services Reduced

(P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Aug. IG. Three Main Trunk goods trains have been cancelled as a result of the strike in the Waikato coalfields, according to Taumarunui railway officials/ The services cancelled are daily trains between Taumarunui and Frankton Junction, and the daily train from Taumarunui to Ohakune. Although coal stocks at the Taumarunui railway yards are not considered good, it was stated today that enough coal was on hand to prevent the situation from becoming serious for a few days.
