NEW REPUBLIC OF KOREA IS ESTABLISHED

SEOUL (Korea), August 15. With its 50,000 police and constabulary alert against threats of widespread internal uprisings and the entire population of 20,000,000 people preparing for eventual civil war, the Republic of Korea was born today. At 11.29 a.m., to the strains of the Korean National Anthem, the Korean flag, with its red and blue balls, was hoisted to. the. masthead, in the grounds of the Capitol. A few minutes later, Dr Rufino Luna, chairman of the United Nations Temporary Commission on Korea, gave recognition to the new nation when he said that the commission had decided to enter into consultations ■with the Government of Korea.
