RUGBY FOOTBALL STAR CLUB TO HAVE JUNIOR TEAM

A decision to reinstitute the junior team and to enter it in the junior competition was reached at the annual meeting of the Star Rugby Club last evening. Arrangements are being made for a friendly match to be played against the Technical Old Boys’ team on April 3. There was a good attendance at the meeting and Mr W. Williams presided. In his report, the secretary, Mr J. A. Jackson, stated that good progress had been made during the season, especially in the senior, fifth, and sixth grades. Various committees had been set up during the season to prepare for the club’s jubilee, which is to be held in August. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr T. E. Coates (re-elected); president, Mr W. Williams (re-elected); vice-presidents, 20 elected; club captain, Mr N. Senior; delegates to West . Coast Rugby Union, Messrs W. Williams and J. A. Jackson; executive committee, Messrs N. Senior, B. Hayton, J. Pegley, H. H. Dixon, M. Lambert, G. Nelson, S. McLaughlin; secretary, Mr J. A. Jackson (re-elected); treasurer, Mr W. Braithwaite (re-elect-ed); auditor, Mr J, Saunders (reelected) ; senior coach, Mr J. Pegley; junior coach, Mr S. McLaughlin; delegates to Junior Advisory Board, Messrs Jackson and Johnson. New members elected included Messrs R. Wilson, J. Nesbitt, A. Blackie, J, Dick, D. Steel, J. Flood, G. Solomon, J. Richard, R. Gardiner, M. Flynn, J. Low, D. Campbell, R. Peggie, and E. Stackhouse. On the motion of Mr Pegley, it was decided to approach the West Coast Rugby Union with the view to having the annual club competitions extended to include Hokitika, it being stated that the inclusion of southern teams would improve football in the district to a considerable extent. . It was also decided to ask the union when the season would open and to suggest that an appropriate time would be the second week in April.
