CRICKET FIJIANS OUTCLASS SOUTHLAND TO WIN BY SEVEN WICKETS

(P.A.) . INVERCARGILL, March 11. The Fijian cricket team beat Southland by seven wickets. Big hitting by Aria was a feature of the game. Fiji passed the Southland score with five wickets down and went on to make 153 in 154 minutes on dead ground. At one time it looked as if Southland would not save an innings defeat, but it had 18 to spare, leaving the visitors 19 to get to win. E. Cakobau and Fenn again bowled unchanged for Fiji. Scores:—

The Australian cricket team toured New Zealand in 1946 without the Imperial Crickjtet Conference’s approval. The countries comprising the conference have now officially recognised the tour so the match against New Zealand at Wellington in March, 1946, ranks as a test —the first between the two countries.
