LATE NEWS Dark Arrow Is Easy Winner At Reefton

The weather is tine for the first day of the Reef ton Jockey Club’s spring meeting and there is a large attendance, including a number of visitors from Greymputh and Westport. The track is in good order, no rain having fallen at Reefton this morning. Result: — INANGAHUA HACK HANDICAP, of £130; one mile and 150 yards:— 1-1 L. S. Robertson’s ch.g., DARK ARROW, by Nightiy-Mataa, 4yrs, 8.10 (C. Stokes) 1 6-6 Valmeer, 8.7 (H. Phillips) .. 2 3-2 Polka, 8.3 car. 7.10 (R. G. Bradshaw) 3 Also started: 5-4 Mercia’s Mystery, 8-8 St Joachim, 2-3 San Parian, 7-7 Vulnerable, 9-9 Merrijigs, 4-5 Winsome Lass. Mercia’s Mystery was fourth. Won by two lengths, one and a half. Time 1.54 3-5. The Greymouth-owned Dark Arrow scored a convincing win in the opening event. Placed towards the rear early he moved forward in trie last half-mile and easily overtook Valmeer approaching the post. Valmeer went to the front from the outset and opened up a gap on the rest of the field. He was tailed by St Joachim until Dark Arrow made his run and St Joachim then dropped out. Polka was hard ridden to beat Mercia’s Mystery for third. San Parian was never in the picture and Merrijigs failed to leave the barrier. HIGHLAND DALE HAS SURPRISE WIN AT ADDINGTON (P.A.)
