OBITUARY Sir Joseph Cook

SYDNEY, July 31.

The death has occurred of Sir Joseph Cook, a former Prime Minister of Australia and later Australian High Commissioner in London. He was 86. He was Prime Minister at the outbreak of the First World War. Born in Staffordshire, he went to work in a coal mine at the age of nine, and emigrated in his early twenties to Australia, where he became loader of the Liberal Party. Professor J. Collie (P.A.) DUNEDIN, July 31. One of the most prominent figures in the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, Professor John Collie, has died in Dunedin at the age of 75. From 1931 to 1932 he was Moderator of the General Assembly, and from 1932 to 1937 he was professor of New Testament studies at the Presbyterian Theological Hall, Knox College, Dunedin.

The funeral of Mr Arthur Mooney took place this morning at the Karoro cemetery. Requiem Mass at St. Patrick’s Church was celebrated by the Right Rev. Monsignor Long and the Rev. Fathers Foley, McCarthy, and Leonard were also in the sanctuary. Father Foley conducted the service at the graveside, Where he was assisted by Fathers Leonard and McCarthy. The funeral of Mrs Margaret Wills took place yesterday at the- Karoro cemetery, the services being conducted by the Rev. J. Silvester.
