The general manager of the Devonport Steam Ferry Co., Ltd. (Captain J. Forbes) and the secretary of the company (Mr L. S. Dromgoole) have resigned. Each intends to go into business on his own account. Dr A. M. Finlay, M.P., has been elected a member of the Auckland University College ’Council by 16 votes to 13 on a provisional count in a straight-out contest against Mr W. H. Fortune, M.P. The election was held among members of the General Assembly resident in the Auckland Province. Dr Finlay is Labour member for North Shore, and Mr Fortune is National member for Eden. —(P.A.) The chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board (Mr Allan J. Moody) announced yesterday that he would not be a candidate at the next election of the board. —(P.A.)
